The hotel, which will open its doors in January, has also announced its new culinary proposal

Gran Meliá, the luxury brand by Meliá Hotels International, is finalising all the details of its latest project in Barcelona, which will be ready to open in early 2024: Torre Melina, a Gran Meliá Hotel. The company, which earlier this year announced the addition of this iconic property (the former Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel) to its portfolio, along with the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, has decided to pay tribute to the site's history and heritage by naming the hotel Torre Melina in honour of the old manor house with the same name, which dates back to the 12th century and is located on the same plot of land as the hotel.

The naming of this iconic property in Barcelona reflects the company's commitment to play an active and responsible role in the local community and to preserve and celebrate the heritage of the emblematic gardens surrounding the property. The hotel is proud to preserve fragments of the old modernist gardens, which now showcase the space's timeless beauty.

With this latest venture, Meliá aims to restore the glory of the old hotel and gardens, converting them into an oasis of calm and urban luxury in the upper part of Avinguda Diagonal, to provide the perfect option for discerning travellers who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. After a comprehensive refurbishment, the hotel will open its doors again in January 2024 to offer a luxury accommodation experience with its 391 rooms and suites, along with an incredible range of services and facilities, including 18 indoor and outdoor event spaces, various pools and the very best wellness experiences, among other things.

 

Torre Melina reveals its high-end culinary proposal

One of the hotel's most valuable contributions to the city will undoubtedly be its extraordinary dining proposal. The company has just revealed its first two partnerships, which will complement the other projects due to be announced shortly. These two high-profile partners, ERRE & Urrechu and a jazz club by Erik Lorincz, will bring a high level of creativity and innovation for a unique gastronomic experience.

ERRE is a steakhouse managed by Íñigo Urrechu that takes great care when selecting its raw ingredients, prioritising seasonal organic vegetables, wild fish and the highest quality Spanish and international meats. The restaurant will be in the hotel lobby, offering an extensive wine menu with over 200 choices.

Finally, Erik Lorincz, one of the industry's most talented and renowned mixologists, winner of the Best Bartender of the Year award and founder of the Kwänt Restaurant in London, will bring creativity to the hotel's cocktail menu. With more than 20 years of experience, he is now bringing his flavours and creations to Barcelona, without losing any of his British savoir-faire.

 

Palau de Congressos de Catalunya: a key asset to the project

Alongside the upcoming Gran Meliá Torre Melina hotel, the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, opened by Meliá just a few weeks ago, is now fully up and running. This space plays a crucial role in repositioning the site, serving as an essential complement to the hotel and offering the perfect infrastructure to attract customers from the MICE segment, which is currently experiencing significant growth in the city.

With improvements to its facilities and brand-new technological equipment, the Palau offers 39 adaptable spaces of varying sizes, an auditorium that can host up to 2,000 people, numerous multifunctional indoor and outdoor areas, and an exhibition space with a surface area of over 4,000 m2.  ​
