German National Tourist Board
The German National Tourist Board presents the Top 100 Destinations for foreign guests

Internationally, Germany as a travel destination remains popular. More than 14,000 foreign visitors of the online portal www.germany.travel voted for their favorite tourist destinations in Germany between January and the end of July 2021.

Last year's winner Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg received the most votes for the fourth time in a row. Europa-Park Rust in second place and Neuschwanstein Castle in third place confirmed their rankings from the previous year. Other attractions that have positioned themselves in the top ten in 2021 are Phantasialand Brühl, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the Romantic Road, historic Dresden, Berlin, the Black Forest National Park and the Rothenburg Crime Museum.

Since 2012, visitors to the website germany.travel have already been able to use a free-text field in this campaign to name the tourist destinations they consider particularly worthy of recommendation. From this, the GNTB develops the ranking of the Top 100.

This year, the GNTB has structured the results into clusters: Cities, Adventure Worlds, Amusement and Animal Parks, Museums, Christmas Markets, Nature Highlights, National Parks, Castles and Palaces.

The top group in the overall ranking of the Top 100 of 2021

1st rank: Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg: Exactly 20 years ago, the Miniatur Wunderland has become the world's largest model railroad. Around 20 million guests from all over the world have visited the ever-growing Wunderwelten in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district and is honored with six entries in the Guinness Book of Records.

2nd rank: Europa-Park Rust: This includes Germany's largest amusement park with more than 100 rides and shows, the Rulantica adventure pool and six themed hotels with numerous restaurants and wellness facilities. Guests explore virtual worlds at the YULLBE VR experience center, while dinner shows combine great entertainment with culinary delights.

3rd rank: Neuschwanstein Castle: The building, which Ludwig II had erected from 1869 onwards imitates the model of a historic knight's castle leaned against the backdrop of the Alps, is one of the world-famous landmarks of Germany as a tourist destination.
