Los Cabos and Cancun lead the way with the highest hotel occupancy rates in the country

Los Cabos and Cancun lead the way with the highest hotel occupancy rates in the country. Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Secretary of Tourism, said the two vacation spots reported a 70.7 and a 70.5 percent occupancy rate, respectively, for the 46th week of the year.

Puerto Vallarta, in the state of Jalisco, came in a close third with 69.2 percent. He said during that same week, the average hotel occupancy rate across Mexico was 54.3 percent.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that 12 of the country’s main destinations were monitored. The remaining places include Aguascalientes with an occupancy rate of 63.8 percent, Villahermosa, 50.2 percent, Mexico City 48 percent, Acapulco, 38.9 percent, Puebla, 38.3 percent, Querétaro, 36.5 percent, San Cristóbal de las Casas, 34.2 percent, San Miguel de Allende with 30.1 percent and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, also with 30.1 percent.

The head of tourism pointed out that during the same week (46) of last year, there was an average hotel occupancy rate of 34.4 percent in these same 12 destinations, highlighting the 19.9 percent increase in 2021.
