Customers can choose between United travel credit, Premier qualifying points, or bonus miles

The western hemisphere's peak summer season has just begun, meaning customers can expect travel deals.

Deals coming to MileagePlus

United Airlines and Chase Bank have announced a new summer deal for MileagePlus frequent flyer program members, dubbed "Travelers take your pick," a card spend offer valid from July 1 until September 30. The carrier has announced a new initiative allowing customers to tailor their reward earnings to their preferences.

According to the airline, starting this month, customers can log in and choose the reward they wish to receive — options include United® travel credit, Premier® qualifying points (PQP), or bonus miles. This initiative is designed to give travelers more control over the benefits they accrue, catering to various travel styles and preferences.

To participate in this program, customers must register and select their desired bonus reward by September 2024. The promotion applies to all qualified purchases made between July 1st. United's move aims to offer a more personalized approach to reward accumulation, potentially altering how travelers engage with airline loyalty programs.

How can customers use joint benefits between Chase Bank and the airline?

We've delved into this topic extensively before. Yet, it's worth noting that beyond this promotional period, customers can access additional perks through co-branded credit cards offered by United and Chase, such as the United Club Infinite Card.

Holding this card allows customers to accumulate miles whenever they or any authorized user purchases with the United credit card. Typically, most transactions involving buying goods or services qualify as purchases. However, there are exceptions: balance transfers, cash advances, and other transactions similar to cash, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, and any checks that access the account do not earn miles. By far, the most attractive perk is access to the airline's vast network of United Club Lounges.

Other summer perks with competing airlines

Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines, which can in some ways be seen as a competitor to United, has also announced a deal of its own, albeit with a twist.

According to Flyertalk, Frontier is running a giveaway that potential flyers can enter by filling out an entry form on the airline's website. In addition to the usual contact information, entrants are asked to share their "Dream Vacation Destination" city that Frontier flies to for their family.

The grand prize is one year of free flights, with the winner receiving four $250 flight vouchers each month for 12 months. Additionally, 100 families will each receive four round-trip flights in the form of four $250 flight vouchers to use on their chosen vacation. Winners are responsible for any taxes and fees when using their vouchers for free flights.
