Riviera Maya News
Visitors have vacationed in Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres

July 7 - Since the reopening of Cancun, Riviera Maya hotels, 70,000 tourists have arrived to vacation and enjoy the area.

Francisco López, the general director of Turismo de Cancún says that there are currently around 13,000 tourists occupying rooms in the 120 hotels that have reopened since June 8. Since their reopening, 70,000 visitors have arrived, maintaining a 20 percent hotel occupancy rate for some.

He points out that these visitors have vacationed in destinations of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, adding that they have confidence that as air connectivity is reactivated, tourism figures will continue with an upward trend that will allow a 50 percent occupancy rate by the end of the year, and a 100 percent reopening rate for state hotels.

The Hotel Association reports that 74 hotels have yet to reopen. Currently, hotels are only permitted to operate at a 30 percent capacity due to the state’s orange epidemiological light.

Over the weekend, the Cancun International Airport reported 150 daily operations with international flights arriving from the United States and Canada. Many of the flights are operating from Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Denver, Salt Lake City, Montreal, Chicago, Baltimore, Charlotte, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.
