Riviera Nayarit
Riviera Nayarit is ready to offer travelers the best natural attractions, hotels, and excursions during the first vacation period of the year

March 22 - The Riviera Nayarit is ready to welcome Easter and Holy Week vacationers for the first long vacation period of 2021. Nevertheless, despite this usually being one of the busiest travel seasons, it will be different this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the destination remains open to domestic and international travelers, travel conditions in the state of Nayarit and which attractions are available and which are not may vary according to the Mexican Federal Government’s Epidemiological Traffic Light.

Nayarit is currently in Amber color, which signifies moderate risk, although I’s expected that very soon conditions could move to Green,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Tourist Arrivals

This year, the Holy Week and Easter vacation period falls between March 28th and April 12th. The Riviera Nayarit will welcome national vacationers to its resorts, natural attractions, clean beaches, activities, and new excursions while keeping within the biosafety protocols that have been in place since the start of the pandemic.

Marc Murphy reported that the destination’s expected hotel occupancy would be close to 40% (of the 50% allowed in the state) with over 35 thousand tourists. However, the figures could vary due to the fact there are generally last-minute reservations. However, he emphasized, advance booking is recommended since the State Government’s instructions do not allow properties to exceed the permitted occupancy percentage. Currently, the destination has around 14 thousand rooms available (out of a total of 18,650).

Luxury Hotels

The managing director of the CVB informed that a large number of tourists are expected from Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara, which are the main destinations of origin for tourists to this location; these are tourists with significant purchasing power.

People are tired of being confined and want to escape for at least two weeks, travel to a great destination, and stay in a good hotel. In this regard, the hotels with the highest occupancy are the super-luxury ones,” he said.

Protocols for Beaches and Bodies of Water

• Access to the destinations will be controlled for monitoring and control by order of the Covid-19 State Committee • To avoid crowds, beaches, rivers, and other bodies of water in the state of Nayarit will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including hotel pools. Monday through Sunday • The maximum occupancy allowed for each beach and body of water will be 50% of capacity • Groups of up to six people may gather on the beaches and observe a distance of four meters between them • Camping on the beaches is prohibited • Restaurants and restaurant-bars may operate until 10:00 p.m., while nightclubs must remain closed
