Cancun and Riviera Maya officials set up additional sanitary filters during the Easter holidays

April 5 - With an excess of 635,000 visitors expected during the Easter holidays, state officials say additional sanitary filters have been set up in and around the more busy tourist areas of Cancun and Riviera Maya.

Governor Carlos Joaquín says that these sanitary filters are set up for access to geographic spaces in critical areas of massive concentration during the holiday season. He specified that the additional filters are already in place around Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum (from March 29 to April 12) and will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The objective is to generate safe spaces in tourist areas to avoid contagion and will include reduced mobility with the closure of some main streets from midnight until 5:00 a.m.

Cancun and Riviera Maya tourists must abide with health protocols as officials add extra sanitary filters

Tourist destinations have to build trust. We are receiving more than 100,000 passengers a week and, in the next two weeks, a little more than 635,000 people based on reservation statistics,” explained the state head.

Those passing through the sanitary filters will undergo a temperature check, dispersion of antibacterial gel, delivery of face masks for those who do not have them and at intervals, the application of rapid testing to ensure covid-positive people are not circulating.

Alfredo Suárez, coordinator of health logistics explained that the filters are done in collaboration and coordination with municipalities and security, transit and health corporations.
