Riviera Nayarit
Updates for tourists coming from North America

January 7 - U.S. and Canada are two of the most important markets for Riviera Nayarit, which is why the destination is reaching out to you to provide important information as it relates to new COVID-19 measures that apply to travelers coming from these two countries.

Most recently, the Canadian Government announced new protocols, in addition to those already established at the beginning of the pandemic, due to the rising increase of cases in the country. First, all air travelers entering Canada must present a COVID-19 NEGATIVE PCR test, which must be preformed 72 hours before boarding the flight. This measure, which goes into effect on January 7, applies to all air travelers aged five and over, in addition to the mandatory 14-day quarantine period when entering the country whether Canadian or not.

At the current time, the Canadian Government has not defined how the PCR tests should be administered, however there are two options mentioned:

a) that the airline provides the testing, an option that is complicated due to the short time available to administer, and
b) that the traveler completes the PCR test in the country where they are vacationing

With that said, the Riviera Nayarit CVB considers offering alternatives to the visitors of great importance, which is why they’ve made arrangements with three prestigious hospitals in the region to offer testing to Canadian citizens at a special rate. These facilities include Hospital Joya, Hospital CMQ and Hospital Punta Mita.

While these requirements are not yet official for the United States, Riviera Nayarit understand that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has proposed implementing a similar process, therefore in anticipation, Riviera Nayarit will assure that the same testing option be available for U.S. citizens once this requirement becomes official.

With this said, Riviera Nayarit asks that you share this information with your clients, emphasizing that they do need to present their passport and an airline ticket showing their travel plans in the next 72 hours to receive the special rate. (Further information is provided below).
