WestJet
WestJet is showcasing a recent journey from Calgary to sunny Cancun in partnership with AMResorts

Are you wondering what a warm getaway from the chilly Canadian winter may look like this year? From the airport, to boarding, to the resort, WestJet is here to help by showcasing a recent journey from Calgary, Alberta to sunny Cancun, Mexico in partnership with AMResorts.

Travel journey to Cancun

The safety of the guests and WestJetters will always be WestJet's number one priority. Your travel journey and the steps the airline is taking to keep #SafetyAboveAll will look similar whether you’re flying with them to a sunny destination like Cancun, or within Canada.

Here’s what you can expect at the airport and during your flight:

Airport
All airports, including YYC Calgary International Airport, have their own protocols in place to keep us all safe. Even though it may be a bit quieter at the airport, it’s good to give yourself plenty of time so that you aren’t rushed or anxious with some of the new protocols like temperature checks, health screenings and social distancing requirements. Since the onset of the pandemic, many airports have also introduced new technologies, like contactless bag drop – give it a try!

Check-in
WestJet recommends checking in online or with the WestJet app 24 hours before your flight to help limit contact with surfaces at the airport.

Temperature checks
Mandatory temperatures screenings are part of your journey at both Canadian and international airports. When travelling from a Canadian airport, your temperature will be taken prior to entering security, and at the gate prior to boarding at international airports.

Mask policy
Don’t forget! Masks are mandatory during your entire flight journey, both at the airport and for the duration of your flight, except when you are actively eating and drinking. You can read more about WestJet zero-tolerance mask policy here.

Boarding
A health questionnaire is part of the boarding process (required by Transport Canada), and once confirming your answers with a friendly WestJetter at the gate, you’ll be asked to temporarily remove your mask for ID verification.

On board
WestJets holds themselves to the highest safety standard. All WetsJet's aircraft are equipped with an industry-leading air circulation system containing a HEPA filter, similar to what’s used in hospitals. Not only do these filters introduce fresh air into the cabin every 2-3 minutes, they also capture and filter 99.99 per cent of all airborne particles.

As always, the friendly WestJetters will be there for your safety and comfort every step of the way. For your peace of mind, a member of your flight crew will also provide a disinfectant wipe to use as you board for freshening your seat area.

Airport transfer

Upon arrival in Cancun, you’ll proceed through customs and baggage claim before you’re greeted by multiple offers for transportation to your destination. WestJet recommends using a transfer to your hotel or resort, like Best Day Travel, that you can confirm when booking your WestJet Vacation. WestJet’s private transfer was very clean, and their friendly driver wore a mask for the duration of the transfer.

AMResorts experience

AMResorts is a collection of luxury resort destinations, each with its own unique personality. The airline was lucky enough to partner with AMResorts to showcase their CleanComplete Verification™ practices through a stay a Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort. While WestJet can’t show you all their amazing resorts, their safety protocols are part of the CleanComplete Verification™ program and are the same at each property.

Arrival and check-in
When you arrive at your vacation destination, you’ll receive a friendly welcome and sanitizer from AMResorts staff before receiving your room keys. Your luggage will be sanitized before entering the resort and delivered directly to your room.

Room cleaning procedures
Walk into your luxury, freshly cleaned room complete with a packaged amenity kit for use during your stay.

Sanitization and social distancing throughout
Relax knowing all surfaces are frequently cleaned, sanitizing stations are available throughout the property, elevator capacity is limited, and lounge chairs are spaced to socially distance.

Family experience
There’s room for the whole family to safely have fun in the sun, with all kids’ areas cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.

Food and beverage
One of the best parts of any vacation is the food and drinks! Room service is always available to be enjoyed with a view, and seating at specialty resort restaurants allows for social distancing while maintaining great service.

Departure procedures
Express check-out services get you on your way quickly, so that you can begin planning your next getaway!

Travel journey home and the Alberta International Border Testing Pilot Program

  The-travel-journey-to-Mexico-during-COVID-19-with-WestJet-and-AMResorts-6

WestJet’s commitment to #SafetyAboveAll means that your journey will look very similar on each flight. However, there are some new requirements before returning to Canada that are important to organize before your trip home.

ArriveCAN App
It’s a requirement by the Government of Canada that all travellers arriving in Canada use the ArriveCAN app to submit information before and after their entry. The app confirms your contact and quarantine information and is part of Canada’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

You must use ArriveCAN before you board your flight to Canada and can use it up to 365 days before your flight. Learn more and download the app here.

International Border Testing Pilot Program
Are you returning to Alberta? Eligible international travellers arriving to YYC Calgary International Airport can participate in the Alberta COVID-19 Border Testing Pilot Program, where participants may quarantine for less time if they test negative for COVID-19 and commit to a second COVID-19 test while following specific public health and testing measures.

All other returning international travellers must legally quarantine for 14 days after arrival.

To participate in the International Border Testing Pilot program, guests must:

Register online with the Alberta Government (up to five days before arrival at Calgary International Airport) and complete the ArriveCAN application prior to arrival into YYC.

Determine eligibility by proceeding through Canada Customs and Immigration (CBSA) and the Public Health (PHAC) process on arrival.

For a final registration with AHS, provide an Alberta Health card and Alberta driver’s license (Alberta residents) or passport (all other eligible guests).

Once you take the COVID-19 test, proceed immediately to quarantine until advised of the test result, generally within 24-48 hours. Follow all other instructions provided by AHS or PHAC.

There’s ample signage at YYC Calgary International Airport for those participating. Learn more about the pilot program and next steps following your first test here.

Conclusion

If you’re getting away this winter, know that your safety is WestJet's number one priority and they're ready to welcome you on board. Read more about where WestJet is flying, their commitment to #SafetyAboveAll, and the testing trials and programs WestJet is involved in here.
